Salamander Resort sits nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Middleburg, Virginia. Driving down from NYC, it's all state roads after I-95; and it feels like home. I grew up in North Carolina and I love when I get to head south for events - it just feels different. Middleburg is close enough to D.C. to draw the city crowd, but far enough away to feel like a different world. The rolling hills and winding roads made for a fun(?) challenge driving to my weekend flat after dark.

Nicole and Adam welcomed guests on Friday with dinner in the Equestrian Center. Their wedding ceremony was held on Saturday in the late afternoon on the lawn nearby. Guests wandered in the charming Culinary Garden during cocktail hour where they had the opportunity to meet Cupcake, the resort's famed pony; then they dined and danced in the Middleburg Ballroom. Each of the weekend's events was made brighter by flowers from Holly Chapple in Nicole's favorite color - yellow.

Nicole and Adam found me through Lexi and Matt - Adam's sister and brother-in-law - whose wedding I had photographed a few years prior at Wolffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, New York. I knew a lot of their family and several friends already, which made the party even more fun. Everyone was so warm and welcoming - and the Miami crew (Nicole's side) set the dance floor on fire. Figuratively, of course.

Bonus fact: the Salamander Resort is black-owned and woman-owned. I believe it's important to support black-owned and woman-owned businesses because it helps bridge the gaps in racial and gender equality.

Thanks to a fantastic team!
